One of the most important messages that I have, is that I did not get better because I lost weight. I had lost weight multiple times in my life, but it never actually got me better. I was in and out of doctors offices, on medications, and needed transfusions all the time at BOTH weights. I struggled with anemia, fibromyalgia, migraines, PCOS, acid reflux, etc. I didn't heal any of that or get rid of symptoms simply just by losing weight... if that were true then I would have been feeling great at 118lbs, which was not the case. I'm now 170lbs, and I am healthier than I have EVER been. I very rarely go to a doctor these days, I'm off all medications, I don't need transfusions anymore, and my blood work is great. I lost over 100lbs, but like I mentioned before, it is NOT about getting to a size zero. I am still thick and I am embracing it. Everyone's body is different, and by implementing the detox and things that I teach, weight loss will absolutely happen... but more importantly, better health will happen.
Mel's story is different than mine. Mel was overweight her whole life. She tried diets but they never seemed to work for her, and she always ended up calling it quits because she “loved cake and ice cream too much.”
As far as health issues that Mel had prior, she used to suffer from CFS, high cholesterol, and anxiety.
We both hit our heaviest together, and we both finally got to a point that we knew there needed to be a change. We decided to lose weight together.
We tried a few different diets, and none of them worked, even things that worked for me when I was younger, just wasn't working anymore. So, I started doing my own research. I found a bunch of natural ways to supposedly lose weight. We tried a bunch of them, and most of them didn't work. I’m not going to lie though, we both did lose some weight on the ketogenic diet... but let me just say, that doing keto was the absolute Worst decision of my life. It ended up landing me in the hospital. I went from being sick, to being non-functioning sick. I had completely hit rock bottom. I cannot stress enough to people about how dangerous keto can be. Yes it can help people lose weight, but it can be so detrimental to health. I ended up being bedridden. I had heart palpitations nonstop, I had tingling all over my body, I broke out in rashes, I even had a rash that broke out on my tongue that was painful. I was super dizzy and light headed all the time. My migraines became an every single day occurrence.
At this point, I could honestly care less about the weight, and I just wanted to be able to function and live my life again. I had read yet another book, but this one seemed like it had some of the missing pieces from what I had been studying.
I remember crying in bed in pain and praying to God to please help me, and that if I got better, then I would help as many people as I could, get healthy too.
I continued to study everything nonstop again, I finally had the missing pieces from everything that I had already been studying for years. I actually became a bit obsessed with it, I would study nonstop whenever I possibly could.
We both had way BETTER results with weight loss than we did with keto, AND doing it this way, there wasn't any risk involved in our health.
Weight was coming off quicker than anything we had ever tried, but even more significant was that my symptoms were getting better and better, and my actual HEALTH was improving. I remembered my promise to God, so Mel and I started an Instagram page, and we helped people for free and also gave away books for free. We would buy the books with our own money and have them shipped to people. But then we noticed a lot of the people who we gave the books away to, would tell us that they read some of them, but they didn’t know where to go from there or how to start, and they still had so many questions that I would help them out with.
We realized that we needed to put something together where it didn't take people forever to read tons of books, and then have to go back and reread and study to try and comprehend it all. Everyone agreed that it's great information, however there are multiple different ways to do things, and people wanted to know exactly what WE did.
We needed to make it in a super simple and easy way, and we needed to have EVERYTHING laid out, and really take people by the hand and show them exactly what to do, step by step... and that my friends, is how Body Positive Weight Loss & Health was created!
